I think it's been said this is Matt Wells offense and seems more obvious as new O coordinator and nothing has changed. Also don't like Chuckie being named unquestioned starter

Our offensive backfield has was way too many defenders in it way to quickly.

I think you're right. No semblance of a real offense since mike Sanford left.SpectrumMagic wrote:I think it's been said this is Matt Wells offense and seems more obvious as new O coordinator and nothing has changed. Also don't like Chuckie being named unquestioned starter

Re: New coordinator same old O
It looks like Chuckie is running backwards on every single pass play. The SUU players are immediately in our backfield on every play.AggieHead wrote:Chuckie seems ok. Oline looks horrific.
Time to run some read option, roll outs, etc. I'm sure Wells didn't want to open much of the play book this week but he might have to in order to win. Unless of course we can get some more points from our defense.
I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.
Re: New coordinator same old O
7-18 with a pick, I get that he hasnt had much time, but even when he's had time he's missed receivers. You guys are higher on CK than I am right now, I sure hope he proves me wrong in the 2nd half.Rabidchild wrote:It looks like Chuckie is running backwards on every single pass play. Not only is offense poor, but the new PA guy is terrible.

I think Boise is feeling pretty "safe" about winning the Mountain Division (and conference) right about now.

It was all a plan to get Utes over confident. At least we know why Heupal got sacked at OU.

Re: New coordinator same old O
I will say that it was nice to hear Wells admit that the issues tonight looked to be largely on the OL. I am starting to believe in the Weber nay-sayers. The play calling was beyond vanilla, maybe on purpose, but the execution of the vanilla play calls was very poor. We should be able to tell SUU what the play is and still move the ball - this was an all together embarrassing effort on O.

In the past, Wells wouldn't often blame things on the OL in public. Glad to hear that he is blaming the OL.

Re: New coordinator same old O
Ok, we all know that there is a O Line problem. It has been since Weber came in. Just think if we would have lost this game, Maverick Stadium would only be half full the rest of the the Season and would cost USU a lot of money. This problem also could cost coaches a chance to move to better opportunities. I'm not buying that it's because of Moseley not being in there. This was an SUU defense for crying out loud! I cannot believe that this guy is still here, it's mind boggling. How many years is MW willing to give this guy? Yes they did get better toward the end of the season so why have they taken a step back? There is no excuses this is all weber and the onus is wells.

Re: New coordinator same old O
Part of me wonders how much of this is scheme related for the current group and how much is talent/coaching. Maybe the talent and ability to coach are fine, they've just been trying to do the wrong scheme or approach for this group.

Re: New coordinator same old O
What scheme would you suggest for an O-line that stands up and watches pass rushers run by them. The only thing I can think of is a a bunch of fullback middle screens. SUU would never have sniffed them out as we could have told the line to block just like every other play.swishh_15 wrote:Part of me wonders how much of this is scheme related for the current group and how much is talent/coaching.
