Utah has their own issues and yes, a big part of that may well be coaching
Utah had a new OC and new offense. They also had a poor offensive line, new oline coach and two other new coaches.

I think the coaching wasn't quite what it should have been at Utah. So, my argument is the same for Utah.

I think Utah also sold 2012 for future years by bringing in Travis Wilson when they did. He could be a good one but he was a true freshman who has a long way to go until he has a command of all the offense. The experience will help.

I think if BYU had played Utah's schedule, they end up with a very similar record. Utah held Oregon State to half the points and half the total yards that BYU did. Utah played them in corvalis. Utah had a wider margin of victory against Washington State.

BYU went 1-2 against the PAC 12 and one loss was to, as you call them, one of the worst teams on the PAC 12 (which they were this past season).

Utah's defense was actually pretty good. Yes, Utah's offense stunk, but their defense played against some of the best offenses in the country. The PAC, excluding Utah, is an offensive conference.

I wonder what BYU's stats would look like if they played a full PAC 12 schedule? We will never know.

BYU had a second year OC and a QB who had been in the program a long time.
