RE: My BYU and collegiate sports "fandom" has taken a mighty blow
Um. My question is, "What are you trying to get out of following BYU sports?"

Is WINNING what drives your fandom? Is it GLORY you seek by being able to brag about your Cougars being the best? Is it PRIDE that drives you to the point that an FCS team just isn't "worth" following? Obviously you are ENTITLED to a bigger return on your investment after all you've sacrificed. The big house, the nice car, the sleek boat, the rings and jewelry, the corporate take-overs, etc. should be yours, man!

Could you care about an 0-12 BYU football team? Granted, it might not be so exciting to follow THAT team, but THAT team would have a lot of good kids trying really hard to give you wins, stroke your pride, and give you what you're entitled to.
I love Football, but what's special about college football is the love of the game, the pageantry, the school-spirit. I will always follow BYU sports and cheer for MY alma mater just as I can watch my kids' sporting events, even when they're sitting the bench until the last few minutes or innings, at which time I will cheer extra loud for my kids who have it genetically "stacked against them." My kids aren't going to be stars of any athletic teams, they'll continue to get picked near last for the team, and they won't have the cool new equipment ('cause I won't or can't buy it for them), but I will enjoy supporting them and watching them play (even if for those final minutes). BYU is dear to me too, and likewise, the players, the program, the school, and even the coaches deserve that same support from me.
I agree that the BCS has cheapened college football, but I am determined not to let it cheapen my faith in, care for, or enjoyment of BYU athletics.
Go Cougars! We have lost ZERO future games! We are undefeated in the future.
