Strong response.
On some level, your call to avoid modern conveniences and get back to the simple life a-la Thoreau is attractive.

Would you also argue that things like indoor plumbing, smartphones, and horseless carriage and airplane travel are not necessities either?

Do I live in "fear" because I own a car (not a necessity) and use it to get around rather than walk everywhere?

Do you believe firearms are unnecessary for me, but necessary for law enforcement officers?

If you are for gun control, then you are not against guns, because the guns will be needed to disarm people. So it’s not that you are anti-gun. You’ll need the police’s guns to take away other people’s guns. So you’re very Pro-Gun, you just believe that only the Government (which is, of course, so reliable, honest, moral and virtuous…) should be allowed to have guns. There is no such thing as gun control. There is only centralizing gun ownership in the hands of a small, political elite and their minions.

Are you aware that functioning fire extinguishers are generally required by law (aka a necessity) in all non-residential buildings in the United States?

Are fire extinguishers and fire extinguishing equipment unnecessary for me, but a necessity for fire departments?

What about residential smoke alarms?

Locks on the doors of my house?

Are these signs that I am a victim of my own paranoia? Am I a deluded CBer because I take basic precautions (using rights guaranteed to me by the constitution btw)?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm humoring you and trying to figure out your point despite the moving target.
