in a "big boy" conference. Let's say Texas and Oklahoma (or Texas and another Big 12 school) bolt for the Pac 12. Or Texas, TTech, Oklahoma and OK State join the Pac 12.
Now the leftovers have to either stay in the Big 12 and add members or they have to reconstitute with the best they can find. Either way, the Big 12 TV deal would be over. Then, it wouldn't be a matter of needing to add more than $20 million per team to keep the average up. They'd look at the available teams and choose the best teams who would bring in the most money. In that case, they HAVE to add teams and BYU adds more than other potential choices. The best scenario would be having only Texas and one other bolt to the Pac 12 and the rest stay put, adding BYU and someone else. The worst would be to have four southern Big 12 teams go to the Pac 12 and then have the Big 10 poach Kansas and one other from what's left.
Of course, it would be all nice and clean if the Big 12 isn't allowed to have a championship game with 10 teams and they feel like they need to add 2 more.
