If ESPN likes having us around (and the numbers and flexibility we provide would suggest they do) then they need to know that for us to continue to be relevant we need more money. We can't compete with schools when we have 1/3 the incoming TV revenue.

The only other reasons I can see for being so open about it is to make sure the BOT's know (which he could tell them in private, but doing something like this is definitely a bigger statement) and to make sure the other conferences know (again, I'm sure they know that BYU wants to be a part). I guess one additional reason would be to make sure the fans know, but anyone who has listened to Bronco over the past few years knows that he wants in a P-5 conference.
