The head coaching position at BYU comes with limitations, nobody would argue
that point. It isn't an easy job, but it is also not an excuse to under perform nor is it a calling from the church that makes it exempt from criticism.

Bronco has taken those limitations and placed further limitations on himself by choosing to run the program the way he does. Many of his coaching hires have been head scratchers. He has bungled the handling of certain players and there has been more than one instance of missing on BYU type of kids in recruiting.

Using the excuse of Utah going to the P12 as the reason for them flying passed BYU as the in state team is not valid. Utah was passing BYU before the P12 invite. USU is now on BYU's heals and all this has happened under Bronco.

He is a good man and a very good defensive coach, but he is not a great head coach. He has had a decade and with that decade he has manged to oversee the decline of BYU football.
