Game consoles - treading carefully

ok, five kids here under 16. I'm not a fan of video games, but figured I may get one for the family. Gaming has changed a lot since Tecmo Bowl.

I don't want the bloody games, would rather see some sport or car simulation type games...maybe starwars type stuff.

What do I get? PlayStation 4, Xbox, etc? No clue...

We're not gamers and I don't want to turn the kids into them...so we don't need the top of the line stuff.

Any advice is welcome!
