- You don't extend him early.

When Bronco/agent ask for early extension, your conversation goes like this.

Bronco: "Hey, I would like an extension so that I don't have to think about it during the season." 

Holmoe: "Thanks Bronco, you've run the cleanest program in years, and you've won some big games.  You hold a higher standard than most other coaches in the country for off the field behavior, you embrace the Honor Code, making no apologies for it and our attendance at firesides is thru the roof, but you are the highest paid school employee, a school owned by the Church, making you the highest paid employee of the Church, and we need you to show us more what you can do 'On the field' to warrant this extension.  We could hire a lot of great man to lead a clean program, and while it may be hard to hire both a Head Coach who can run a clean program AND win, we need to see more results on the field...we need more consistency.  Because ultimately, the fans pay the bills, and we are losing them.  By your own standards, you should accept this, as you are not meeting your own expectations, and there's no indication that it will change in the years to come based on the last 5-6 years.
