The compressor in my home AC unit is leaking coolant. I got an estimate from the
first contractor I had out to look at it. The AC unit is still under warranty so the new compressor is free.

He wants to charge $489 for labor, $35 per lb for r410a coolant a total of 15lbs or $500+, a disposal fee of $100, $125 recovery fee and a $50 non stock item pick fee.

The labor I have no problem with.

I looked online and I can buy a $25lb cylinder of r410a for $95 plus $30 in shipping. So he's obviously over charging for that.

Can't I dispose of the compressor myself if it no longer contains coolant?

Also the recovery fee and non stock item pick up fee seems bogus as well.

Any advice would be welcomed. Especially since I'm going to get estimates from other contractors as well.
