baseball used to have a ton of Hall-of-Famers at the All-Star game and that it no longer does. After thinking about it, I guess I disagree. I looked at the All-Star rosters from last night and here are the ones that I think have a chance to get in the HOF and what their chances are:
The Locks:
*David Ortiz - Over 500 HRs and perhaps the biggest piece of the Boston resurgence
*Clayton Kershaw - Can you call a 28 year-old a lock? I think you can. 3 Cy Youngs and 1 MVP with a career 2.39 ERA and almost 2,000 strikeouts would be enough if his career ended tomorrow imo.
*Miguel Cabrera - A lifetime .320 hitter with 426 career HRs and a Triple Crown...he's in.
On their way:
*Madison Bumgarner - One of, if not the greatest postseason pitching performances in the history of the game, as a 26 year-old has 95 wins and a sub 3.00 ERA, 3 World Series Titles
*Mike Trout - Yes, he is only 24. Still he already has a rookie of the year award, an MVP, 4 Silver Sluggers, 5 All-Star game appearances and 2 All-Star MVPs, oh by the way a .306 career avg, .400 career obp, 157 HRs, 128 SBs and again he is only 24!
*Robinson Cano - 2100+ hits, 260 HRs (most in AL history for a 2B), lifetime .308 batting avg and a World Series Title.... Very close to a lock
*Buster Posey - The stats won't blow you away, but a career .309 avg with 3 World Series Titles, a rookie of the year and an MVP
I think they are in:
*Carlos Beltran - 2500+ hits, 400+ HRs, 3-Time Gold Glove, 9-Time All-Star.... sounds like a HOFer, but I don't think he is necessarily a lock
More Probable than not (guys who are very young and very good, but have a long ways to go before they make it) if they remain healthy:
*Bryce Harper - 23 year-old with an MVP and 116 Career HRs, a career .900 career OPS
*Nolan Arenado - 25 years old, 3-Time Gold Glove Winner, 93 career HRs
*Manny Machado - The AL version of Arenado
*Jose Fernandez - I somewhat hesitate to put him on here, but with the caveat "if they remain healthy". The guy has a 2.43 ERA in his 4 years and he is still only 23. If he stays healthy, I like his chances
So your saying there's a chance:
*Craig Kimbrel - Only 28 with 242 Saves, needs some postseason defining moments
*Paul Goldschmidt - Needs to continue to amass numbers
*Stephen Strasberg - Good start to career with a 66-37 win record and 3.04 ERA... needs to stay healthy and win more games
*Cole Hamels - 32 year-old with 130 career wins.... needs at least 200 just to get in the discussion
Too Young to have any clue (although they look very good):
*Noah Syndegaard
*Kris Bryant
