you should listen to Radiolab's "More Perfect" episode on the Lawrence v. Texas (which deals with Texas's prosecution of gay man for breaking anti-sodomy laws in 1998).
They say that, even though the supreme court ruled (obviously correctly) that anti-sodomy laws are unconstitutional, the law police used against Lawrence is actually still on the books in Texas.
Apparently someone will occasionally try to get the law repealed, but it never really gains any traction.
Obviously universities are more liberal, and mormonism probably will give some midwesterners pause, but this idea that the church's stance on social issues will keep us out probably isn't really the case.
