If they have a career ending injury then they lose their amateur status, can't play football in college on scholarship, so many won't end up ever getting a college education since they may not be able to afford paying their own way.

Say what you want about college players not getting paid to play in college, but at least they have something to fall back on (if they actually take school seriously and choose a good major) if their football careers don't go as planned.
