Thoughtful post with many points that I agree with. However, there is one HUGE
difference...winning % versus Utah.

I'm not one who bases the success of our CFB and CBB seasons on one game. But I do think it's generally one of the most important games on the schedule. Rose's solid winning percentage over the Utes has earned him more goodwill than people realize.

Absolutely the biggest complaint I had about Bronco was his inability to beat Utah. In fact, I would go so far as to say that if Bronco had won the game in 2010 (Bradley's knee was down) and we had made the field goal and won in overtime in 2012 at Utah, that 90% of the criticism of Bronco would have been gone. I mean it. Two more wins in toss up games versus Utah and Bronco is considered a stellar coach by most BYU fans.

In college sports you HAVE to beat your rival. You just have to or you can't stick around. Wanna see people really start to complain about Rose? Watch what happens if Utah beats us in the MC next year after having dropped a couple to them recently. Watch the pitchforks and torches slowly come out as well against Sitake if he loses to them in Provo next year as well. I'm not saying it's wrong. Heck, I'll be complaining. We NEED to win both of those games in 2017. Almost "must wins" for both sports.

In my opinion Bronco's biggest flaw was inability to beat his rival. Rose's biggest flaw has been that his teams generally play horrific, HORRIFIC defense (which is also why BYU always does so poorly in the post season as well...but that's a convo for another day).

But overall, I do see a lot of similarities. Both are solid, very good coaches. Neither is "a great coach" to me.
