Difficult to get into BYU if you live in Utah. Need to increase # of students
from Utah.

BYU is not, and never will be, an Ivy league school. But it is already somewhat comparable to and can improve to become more like a B1G/ACC/PAC state flagship. Afterall, it is the flagship university for the LDS Church.

I believe BYU should eventually grow to 45-50K or so, including more students from Utah (in numbers, but not necessarily percentage) and more non-LDS (in numbers and percentage). (Side note - I would push for more Jewish and Muslim students, who love the honor code, can appreciate some of the unique culture, and can expand and improve BYU's international religion studies department). This needs to be accomplished gradually, however, so as to maintain academics rankings and momentum and without harming BYU-I and other campuses and the Pathways program.

At the same time, BYU should be all over starting a medical school in conjunction with Utah Valley hospital and look to increase and improve post-graduate programs.

Another side note - I would also love it if the LDS Church established a smaller university in Nauvoo or Independence and international universities in Latin America somewhere and England. (Not just satellite centers).

LDS Church population has almost quadrupled in the past 40 years. BYU's enrollment in 1960 (over 55 years ago), was 25,000 students. It's time to grow with the demand.

The goal should not be to turn into some elitist Ivy school, but to educate those who want a great education in an LDS-centered or honor code-friendly atmosphere and culture.
