I bought a Google Home today and it came with Chromecast as part of a promotion
I love the idea of having all of my internet-of-things devices linked together and controlled by Google Home (Albeit, the number of devices that support Google Home is severely lacking. Hopefully it gets better with time). It's really cool that I can tell Google to play something from Netflix and it will just play. I look forward to other streaming services adding Google Home support (Netflix is the only one so far). However, I'm still not entirely sold on Chromecast. I've been a Roku user for years and I love the Roku. I like that it has a remote and isn't reliant on a secondary device for user input. I also like that Roku has an Amazon Video app. I was disappointed to learn that Amazon Video doesn't have support for Chromecast. The only way to watch Amazon Video through the Chromecast is to mirror your second device. I suppose this is Amazon's fault. They are competing with Google in many of the same spaces, and want Amazon Video user to purchase the Alexa and Fire TV. It is interesting, though, that they built an app for Roku. Anyway, I love the integration between the Chromecast and Google Home, but I still like my Roku more. It's probably a pipe dream, but maybe Google will work with Roku to add Roku support for Google Home and vice versa.
