Maybe an academic analogy will help:
I've seen academically elite kids choose BYU over Harvard and Stanford, graduate at the top of their class at BYU with no debt, and get any job they want because even the most elite companies recruit the top BYU students.
I've seen other academically elite kids choose Harvard or Stanford over BYU, graduate near the middle of their class with $100,000+ of debt, and be unable to get a job at the most elite companies because those companies don't recruit kids near the middle of their class at Ivy League schools.
Does that make choosing Harvard or Stanford a bad choice? Of course not! But was it the best choice they could have made? Probably not.
