I think that is the case for the upperclassmen. As they have more time in the
system, they got more focussed and bond more with the teammates. It becomes "their team". When they are younger, they are just trying to fit in and find their placer in many cases. As a whole, I didn't think it changed much from year to year, but it does for individual players.
