Some studies show that band and orchestra kids do better in math, drop out
less and do better generally in academics. Of course, that brings up the question of whether the types of kids who enroll in those classes are more likely to better in school anyway, but the researchers of the study summaries I read (a while back) seemed to think there was at least an small amount of cause and effect, with studying how to play an instrument being the cause.
