This reminds me of a funny experience. Several years ago a bunch of guys in our ward signed up to play in an indoor soccer league. Truth be told--we absolutely sucked. None of us had any experience (I hadn't played soccer since I was in second grade). And the league set up was a joke--encompassing everything from beginners like us to a team of former Weber St. soccer players.
It was against that team of WSU soccer rockers that the story takes place. We were losing 24-1 (yes, LOL it was that bad) and they were absolutely showing us up. Our poor "goalie" was lost, as were the rest of us. One of the guys on our team was a former BYU LB (you'd all know him from past days) who is about as calm and nice a person as can be, though a bit heavier nowadays. BUT, he was getting pissed as these little soccer twerps were, he felt, showing him up. He finally snapped and checked one of the little turds into the wall and then stood over his crumpled body pointing at him and yelling at him to not come to his side of the field any more. The kid got up, checked himself out of the game, and sat the bench the rest of the time.
Joke was ultimately on us for trying to play soccer. But it was funny to see the football player get violent with soccer boy.
Oh, and we did get better as the season wore on. We started recruiting random Hispanic guys who hung around the indoor field. By season's end, we weren't half bad.
