I've done it in a minivan. Not ideal, but we made it.

Judging by the ruts, washboards, and potholes in that road, I'm guessing the condition of the road varies a lot from year to year.

So I can't guarantee that a minivan could make it up there this year.

Is the hike from silver lake flat to silver lake reasonable for small kids?

Yep. That was our little kids first hike and they were totally fine.

How small? 5 and older, yes. It's only 2 miles and not steep.
