Agreed. We were getting skunked on Crypt Lake in Waterton/Glacier
until I put a floating fly behind a bubble. It was a big pregnant Adams (probably size 14). My BIL caught a big 18-20" cutthroat with that rig. I caught some smaller ones, but the action was on the top.
Have enough variety in tackle and be prepared to switch up if there's no action using one method.
