as I was walking into a Burger King. He was a big, burly guy. Pretty intimidating actually.
I told him I didn't have any cash. I just use my card. He gives me this look like I am lying and as I enter the restaurant yells to me "I just wanted to buy a burger."
When it came my time to order, I thought of the man, and decided to double the order. I then went outside and told him to come in and get his hamburger. He graciously accepted.
As we are standing there waiting for our food he starts making requests to the workers to prepare his burger a certain way. He wanted mayonnaise only, he wanted it cut in half and wrapped separately, etc.. The hamburger was already prepared so the worker told him sorry, he was going to have to take it like it was.
The workers must have known him because they all looked annoyed as he walked in the restaurant.
So this big guy looks at me and in a voice loud enough for the whole restaurant to hear and says, "I thought this was the have it your way place. I want my burger my way and now they won't give it to me." That was just the start of it. His complaint went on, mixed with a few choice words, echoing throughout the place.
I'm embarrassed. The whole place is now looking at the two of us thinking we are together. In a moment of panic I said the first thing that came to my mind.
I said,"Beggers can't be choosers."
[Gulp]
He stops his rant. Now his stare is now fixed directly on me.
He asks with anger in his eyes, "Beggers can't be choosers?"
At this point I think he's going to take his wrath out on me.
To my surprise a big smile then comes over his face.
He says, "Beggers can't be choosers? That's the funniest d*&% thing I have heard all day."
Slaps me on the back, grabs his burger and leaves.
