We adopted two of our granddaughters, so now we are drawing social security, we get an extra amount because we have dependent minors.

I want to put money aside for post high school (one is 14, one is 12). I want the money to be available for college/trade education and for missions, so I have shied away from a 529. Is that a mistake, or is there another/better way to save a few years for them?
