Once the honey flow stops (usually July here, but intensifies with a dry August)
The bees have their gathering button on, but nothing to gather. They will raid another hive, steal all of the honey and essentially kill it (because it won't have any food, especially over the winter). It can get crazy. I was worried I might start the process, but so far, no problems.

Last year I had this tiny colony (I captured as a swarm - the number of bees probably wasn't even 1,000 - waaaaay to small) and shortly after my videos last year (if you watch the one from last year when the bees were cleaning the frames and the wax capping, they were going nutzo) the other colonies totally raided the little one. It had a few bees in it and we went down to check and there were probably 10,000 raiding bees in the box. We had to move it to a friends house until winter.

One of my favorite things about beekeeping is that it is so fascinating and there are 10 opinions on everything. People always ask questions. That the fun of it...and they go nuts over local honey.
