For a while we had a problem with the youngest being scared of the dark, hated bedtime, etc. it was bad. Then one day I was quietly playing the piano after putting the 3 youngest down. The next day he requested that I do that again. Well, this evolved into a night time routine of turning on the pandora station "sleep music for Jeff", and reading one book that each child chose. And if you've never done it, reading a book with background music is a must try, it really adds something. Anyway, after a few nights of that the terrified little boy was telling me he was ready for bed 30 minutes early. He loved the experience, the extra attention, and I think the music was soothing and helped him feel peaceful.
