It seems to be the general consensus of the board that the decision to hire Ty was either entirely at the direction of Tom Holmoe, or Tom at least reached out to make first contact. If (big if) that's true, that causes me some concern, because I can only think of two reasons why the AD would be directly involved in selecting assistant coaches:
1. Kalani wanted to hire somebody else but Tom exercised veto power. Not a good thing - head coaches should have the autonomy to hire who they want, and the accountability to live or die by those hires.
2. Kalani didn't have an extensive enough coaching network to have good leads for a potential OC. Not a good thing - we all saw the result of Bronco's basically nonexistent coaching network, and honestly some of Kalani's offensive hires were real head-scratchers to me.
Again, IF this is true, can somebody convince me that Tom hiring Ty directly is a good thing?
