Everything you just said...

falls under the offense blanket. Running game, blocking, passing, catching, all of it is what Ty is getting paid to be in charge of.

Example: Howell. He knew the defense in and out, made the same calls as Bronco. Why wasn't he a good DC? It was exact same scheme, same play calls, same personel. Under Howell it sucked. Under Bronco it thrived. It's holding players accountable, motivating players, commanding players to come together in a common cause, teaching, mentoring, etc. Detmer just doesn't have it. Doman didn't either. Howell didn't have it as a DC either. It doesn't mean they don't know football in and out, it just means they're not good at coaching the offense or defense as a whole. They'd make better position coaches rather than coordinators.

Whether it's scheme, poor execution, poor play calling, etc. It falls on who's in charge of the offense. In this case it's the former Heisman Trophy winner who coached at a po dunk no name high school in Texas named Ty Detmer.
