Maybe many of the strong lds families from CA have moved to Utah County?
Seems like a lot sure have. The church has diminished in size/strength in CA over the past 10 yrs or so, with some areas more affected than others. There especially seem to be fewer families with teenage kids.
Meanwhile, LDS are flocking back into the crowded I-15 corridor. It's kind of like a reverse migration of what happened in CA during the 60s and 70s.

I was a kid in socal in the 80s. I had no clue about byu (my parent's fault) and it was decidedly uncool to be Mormon
