So this weekend I made friends with one of Virginia's team doctors at my wife's class reunion. She was telling me about Bronco and how much she loves what he is doing --- yes even though he went 2-10 last season.
1st) When Bronco came in apparently there was a significant drug culture on the team. He immediately dismissed 20 people from the team that were failing drug tests. So instead of keeping his best athletes and trying to get them to get right, he just cleaned house ala Morgan Freeman in Lean on Me. She loved it.
2nd) When players come to see the doctor now they talk about how hard it is working under Mendenhall physically -- specifically they say: "I love Bronco, but his practices are soooooo hard." They love him, and push through practice for him. Culture of hard work.
Sounds like the staff and university in general is happy to give him the leash needed to clean up the program, bring in his guys, etc... Attendance isn't that good apparently at the games right now (tough to convince yourself to buy season tickets after your team goes 2-10 right?) But the University staff is definitely appreciating the new culture Bronco is bringing to the team.
That is all.
