SDSU could pull off independence. SoCal venue. Especially with BYU and Hawaii
SDSU can already get PAC schools on the schedule. There would plenty of MWC and other schools that would sign up, even in later season, in order to get games in SoCal for recruiting purposes.
Hawaii and SDSU as independents would give independent BYU some late season rivals in great locations.

You have to take the statement in context. The context is competing with P5 schools as an independent is not sustainable
