Those fans that remain determined to see BYU as a "G5" program can go right ahead. Those that see BYU football in an
inevitable decline are free to do so. Those that see only doom and gloom with our current downturn are welcome to their views. I won't be joining them, ever. I, and many others, will be actively rooting for our guys tonight and every week, come what may. We aren't blind to the current issues on the field, but we also aren't blind to the OBVIOUS (to anyone with half a working brain) strengths BYU football has as a program. Revenue, attendance, facilities, TV exposure, etc., are all very P5-like, and even top-half P5-like (revenue bottom of P5, but no debt). That's a lot of strength to work with.

We've done a lot of winning, even as the recent 8 and 9 win seasons leave us unsatisfied. We always want more, and we hope for a return to the glory days at least every now and again. But even if we don't quite match up to our hopes and expectations, it is a TRUTH that BYU is a winning program - one of the most consistent winners in college football. We almost never go through what we're currently going through, and this current downturn won't last. Those in charge of BYU athletics won't allow it to become any kind of new normal.

So, if you're one of the doomsayers, have at it. You're wrong now, and you'll be proven wrong in the future. We all want P5 access, but until then I'm very, very glad that our leadership isn't too timid to go at it alone. Real men do hard things.
