To summarize it seems the pro G5 responses fall into a couple of camps:
* We're never going to be good enough to go to the playoffs so who care.
Depressing Response.
* Going undefeated with a strong SOS as an independent isn't going to get us into the Playoffs anyway. We might as well have fun beating G5 teams then loosing to P5 teams.
I get it people want to see wins. I see this argument as saying we're never going to be good enough to play a P5 schedule so lets give up on labeling ourselves as P5 caliber. Also depressing.
* Playing G5 schedules will match our current competition level and allow us easier access to a NY6 bowl which might help us get into a P5 conference.
P5 conference affiliation is never going to happen and I don't see the desire to play NY6 bowls when we can play NY6 caliber teams every year? Just seems like more people wanting to promote delusions about how good we really are by winning with a weak schedule.
Good points all. Though I'm still not convinced. Everyone I know is pro independence so it is hard to debate and understand the pro G5 thinking outside cougarboard. Thanks for helping me better understand.
