are really fans?

I seen demands that Holmoe be replaced, even though he has BYU atheletics up to #31 on the Directors' Cup, with very elite company. Many of our teams are ranked in the top 10.

Supposedly the University and BOT are not properly supportive of BYU sports, though in recent years they've poured money into faclilities, e.g. indoor football practice facility, new basketball practice facility, new turf on numerous sports' fields, etc.

They won't pay coaches decently, though no one documents what our coaches make and don't include what a specific circle of donors contribute to the coaches' compensation beyond that (it been awhile since I was privy to that figure but then it seemed to match what BYU itself paid).

We've had 12 straight bowl games and winning seasons, a record the overwhelming majority of universities can't match. We have our first down year in a decade and there are a chorus of voices demanding we sack Detmer and even Kalani psychically diagnose the motives of the school and BOT

Many regulars now demand we go back to the kids' table known as the G5. Forget about the fact that the P5 don't see us that way; they count us for scheduling purposes as a P5. Not one G5 team has that privilege. We have more national TV exposure than all but a hand full of teams; think that will happen in the G5? (Oh, yeah, we bring in more money, too.) But that's not good enough, we have to have a chance to get a shiny tin cup for winning the Nobody Conference.

We have Kalani and Detmer because many of these same board names demanded that Bronco and company get bounced. He listened and left. None of the petulant fans thought through where we would get someone as good who could meet the "Church member in good standing" requirement. Bronco was a good coach but will probably never be a great one. That said, you don't dump a good "known" quantity until you know you have someone better. If you do, be patient and live with setbacks.

You're angry because good prospects are walking away, so you put it on the teams performance. Do you not think that a player who committed to us does not read all the BYU fan boards everyday? When they do, what are they seeing? Players being assessed as hopeless and demands to pull them, coaches who are categorized as inept. A very successful AD who should be replaced. Do you think they want to become canon fodder for the acerbic comments? 

Football is the tail on the dog at BYU and any great university. Look at how many of the top 25 ranked universities either don't have football or never have had a competitive program. BYU can get along just fine without it. It's good news for us that they put up with all this bitching and still sustain the prorgam.

There's a big difference between critiquing as a fan, and denegrating the University, BOT, coaches and players about their abilities, efforts, and motives. 

My criticism is not aimed at everyone on the board, nor even the majority; but the balance between thoughtful though critical voices and ridiculous, generalising fools writing on the board is tilting dangerously toward the latter.
