Did I ever say I wanted it to go back?
Let be clear about goals/objectives here.
The #1 goal (and nothing else matters) is to get to a P5 conference. I think we can all agree on that.
How do we do this? Well, what we have been doing is floundering in mediocrity of Indy where we can win a 8-9 games a year against very good competition and a very good schedule. This however does not move the needle. We haven't finished ranked since Indy, we aren't competitive when we play the true Big Boys, and we are loosing recruits faster than we are gaining them at this point.
Or...
We could go to G5 conference, get back to the business of winning a lot of football games and rebuild a culture and brand that is founded on winning. We have better access to a NY6 bowl game and can still play for conference championships. Our ability to become a ranked team improves and we become more nationally known.
This seems like the more proven and better approach to reach the P5 level (if that opportunity ever comes knocking again).
