offensive consultant(s) are in the press box above the field. This gives them more of a chess-board view of the action on the field. All other coaches are on field level, including Ty Detmer, who is calling plays. Coach Sitake likes as many main coaches on the field level as possible to work with players directly.

The coaches communicate through headsets. Back up quarterbacks (like Koy Detmer) are often on headset for a couple of reasons: one is to learn the offense by hearing what plays the coaches are calling and why they are calling them based upon what is going on on the field. The other reason Koy wears a headset is so that he can relay plays in to the quarterback when BYU goes to hurry-up mode.
