Pretty sure NCAA sees the same difference you do.
I read that they view benefits to recruits differently than benefits to players.
It is kind of far fetched to think that Emery came or stayed at BYU because he expected free trips with the long-time family friend.
So, yeah. It could be an impermissible benefit. But there isn't much in the way of enticement/inducement.
