locked in would take away quite a bit of time you’d probably want to spend on the rest of your offense.

Personnel is a huge thing as well - if you don’t have a really great threat to run at QB, it’s less believable. You also need a very competent fullback.

I think this is why the wildcat has had some staying power - you are running a looser read option or even predetermined QB run that is just out to try to take advantage of a mismatch and change pace or keep a defense honest.
