Koy has a very strong grasp of the offense - just lacks the physical tools to execute at the D1 level.
Koy has been immersed in a similar offensive system his entire life (no exaggeration), so he is actually able to relate insights to his fellow QBs. Hoge referred to him as "friggen co-OC" and also hailed Koy as his best teammate ever for being so willing to celebrate other's successes and to help others achieve that success. Koy will slide right into coaching once his playing days are over, same as his grandfather, father, and uncle before him.

In short, it's a good thing to have Koy around, even if he never sees the field.
