So, I've been going to the doc for knee pain. I've never seen this guy prior to these two visits. He is an EXTREMELY fast talker.
First visit:
Doc - "I can't really tell what's wrong, so I think we're going to need to do an MRI. First we'll need to do an X-ray though. I don't really think you need the X-ray, but the insurance company won't approve the MRI until you've had an X-ray. Do you need pain meds?"
Me - "No, it doesn't hurt very much, it just feels like something is wrong. It keeps getting irritated, and I'm afraid I'm making it worse."
Doc - "No pain meds? Well, the insurance company likes to see that we've been doing some kind of treatment on you, so here is a prescription for some pain meds. You don't even have to fill this prescription if you don't want to, it's really just so the insurance company will approve the MRI."
So I get the X-ray and MRI. Comes back mostly clean, with a moderate cartilage fissure being the only issue. He sends me a note saying to come back if pain continues.
Second visit:
Doc - "Oh, you're back. Well, you know that the MRI came back without any major issues...so...why are you here again? Are you taking those pain meds? Why aren't you taking those pain meds?"
Me - "Because it doesn't hurt very much. I'm only here because it's been 5 months and it still hurts."
Doc - "You must be one of those drug minimalists, I totally get that. But you should really take those pain meds. Exercise on it and take pain meds."
Me - "But it doesn't hurt very much. I don't think it's necessary to take pain meds."
Doc - "Just try the pain meds."
