And your point about past coaches is so outdated it's utterly irrelevant. The financial landscape of that college football world bares no resemblance to the landscape of today.
The original post is asking one of the three fundamental questions facing BYU football: Why are we not willing to commit comparable resources when we clearly could?
There's a knee-jerk tendency on this board to dismiss criticism like the OP with a "You don't know what you're talking about"-type response. Probably because it equates to criticizing church leadership. But it's a perfectly reasonable question.
For what it's worth, I think the other two fundamental questions are, What is the end game with independence? and How can we address our growing recruiting handicaps?
BYU has made decisions to be distinctly different on a variety of fronts. Those decisions are bearing fruit that cannot be reconciled with fan expectations. Something's gotta give in that disconnect.
