BYU has a PR problem
As someone who earned a degree in PR and dealt with PR issues for more than two decades in business, maybe I’m a little ultra sensitive to this but it seems that BYU bungles virtually every major PR issue they deal with.

The most recent being the firing of Ty Detmer and the search for his replacement. One of the things I’ve learned in my personal experience is that in a vacuum the public will spin things to the most negative perspective. Nobody has any idea what’s really going on which leaves us to assume that the entire athletic department and specifically the football program is in total chaos right now.

Rather than letting social media and radio hosts dictate the discussion about our coaching changes, the A.D. and his staff should be out in front of these things and communicating with the fans. The silence from the AD this entire football season has been frustrating.

I’m not sure who manages public relations issues for BYU, But whoever it is they are doing a poor job. I’m not suggesting we air everything we are doing and why to the public but I think there needs to be a little more transparency and communication around what’s actually going on. Otherwise no news is taken as bad news.

Just once I wish we could be out in front of all of the perception stories about BYU and BYU athletics and not be forced to play defense in the very biased media. In todays 24 hour news cycle perception is everything.
