I remember years ago when I played rec league there was this team of old...
...slow white guys that everyone hated to play. That’s what they did, the ball almost never touched the floor and they always moved it ahead and kept the defense trying to catch up. I remember I had just finished my game and was taking my time unlacing my shoes while the next game did their warmups. The rec center was in the middle of the ‘hood and the team of old white guys was playing a young team made up of a collection of gym rats from the neighborhood. During warmups they were high-flying-finger rollin’ their layups, some guys were dunking, etc and spectators were commenting how these young guns were going to destroy the old guys. There were a lot of laughs and jokes flying around on the subject.

The opening tip went to the old guys (they had a bruising 6’7” 240 lb center) and they ran a very quick UCLA 3 man passing drill for a layup before the young guns had time to even pick up a man on D.

The young guns came down and one kid tried to go 1 on 3 and turned the ball over. Boom, 3 man passing drill (ball never touched the floor), the old PG did a jump stop at the top of the key while the bigs called out 4th and 5th cutters and he dished to one of them cutting down the lane for a layup.

Next time down another young gun launched a quick long 3 to which all 5 old white guys blocked out and got the rebound and pass, pass, pass, layup. Ball never touched the floor. The old guys eventually doubled them in points and ran the young guns out of the gym. It was a thing of beauty for sure as the crowd that had been jeering and making jokes sat in stunned silence.
