Two years ago, the PAC-12 schools announced that they would continue to cover medical insurance premiums for athletes injured, while in college, for up to seven years after leaving the university.
The BIG followed suit, shortly thereafter. At one of the P5 business meetings, held during the NCAA convention, the measure was adopted by all five conferences.
Looking over the P5 proposals for the business meeting, at the end of the month, I came across this item:
It’s simply titled “Comprehensive Health and Medical Expenses for Student-Athletes”. It’s proposed by all five conferences.
Since they already cover premiums after college, I think it means exactly what the title suggest.
If an athlete, in any sport, is injured, the schools will not only pay the premiums but also any resulting expenses that arise after the student leaves that school. There is no indication if they will cover expenses for seven years.
