One year is insufficient time for a program to develop a player's skills from
non-NBA material to NBA material. Jackson probably actually regressed some while at Duke (he didn't even start for several games because of his and other teammates' inconsistent play during a stretch of losses). He was drafted because of his high school/high school all-star/high school basketball camp performances. He has incredible skills that existed long before Duke and were well-known and broadcast long before Duke. His one year at Duke didn't make him any more of an NBA talent than he would have been at any other school, including BYU. He most likely chose Duke for an opportunity to win a NC ring during his anticipated one year in college (bling means something to people).
