so, this happened: guy gets a special permit to shoot a mtn goat in montana.
not a real experienced hunter.
ends up finding and shooting a world record. got lucky, obviously. they knew it was big and called fish and game to do official measurements.
he was told to spend $$ to do the taxidermy right, so he spend 20k on taxidermy.
sold the mount for 450k.
just happened a few months ago. btw...this was the second animal he shot at. he missed the first one, which was smaller.

Well, probably wealthy individuals that love big game animals. But it's possible that a museum purchased it.
