Steve Kaufusi deserved better. He was a strong DL coach at both BYU and Utah
Kalani only hurt things last year by shifting Kaufusi to coach LBs. Kaufusi had 23 years of experience coaching collegiate DL. Tuiaki had 1 and only 1 year of experience coaching collegiate DL. Regardless, Kalani pushed Steve to LB. IMO both the BYU linebackers and the BYU DLmen suffered from this change last year. Instead of being allowed to coach his son, Corbin, for one last year, Steve is being shown the door. Steve Kaufusi is a class act. I was frustrated at how Kalani treated Ty Detmer. And I am further frustrated with how Kalani has treated Steve Kaufusi.

I don’t understand why so many on here who think the only way to be a successful coach is to do exactly what Lavell did. (SL12, Jan 19, 2018 at 2:23pm)
