Can we give the new coaching staff a chance before we start running off on
theories of Nepotism and forced hires by
The head coach or AD. First of all ALL of the offensive coaches are qualified for the positions they are in currently in and all have shown to be successful coaches so far in their careers. I've heard a lot of speculation about grimes being forced to hire his current offensive staff. Grimes isn't an idiot, he didn't have to come here he could have stayed put or gotten a high paying O-line job at any school in the country. If he didn't want somebody on the staff they wouldn't be there. Period. Was Sitake involved in the hiring process, of course, a head coach would be foolish to not be involved in hiring his staff. Let's look at each hire:

Pugh- this is 100% Grimes, he wanted a protégée he knew would coach the o-line his way so he could focus on the offense. If Grimes trust him with his baby, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Clark- Clark coached the most successful
Position on offense last year, despite key injuries. He also was a GA under Grimes when Grimes was previously at BYU. Most expected him to be retained when Grimes was announced.

Roderick- many thought Roderick was the leading candidate for OC, he has a lot of D1 experience and D1/P5 experience, and we got him as a POSITION coach. This is a No-brainer. Any coach would have made this hire. No reason to think that Grimes was forced into hiring him.

Fesi Sitake- if his last name was not Sitake, we wouldn't be having this conversation. If we hired Peterson instead people wouldn't be complaining about him only having FCS experience, yet their resumes are very similar and Fesi actually has more coordinator experience. Fesi has had success coaching WRs, I doubt there were many other WR candidates who had his resume. No reason Grimes wouldn't have made or been heavily involved in this decision. He's an up and comer, I guess we could have done what BYU does with most up and comers with BYU ties, wait and let Utah hire them.

I have no idea if this staff will be successful. But I am hopeful with their experience and past success that the can be successful next year. With the schedule they will definitely be tested.
