than the MWC. Both in terms of prestige and on court prowess.
The WCC is our conference. Most BYU fans get that, and are either happy with it (because it's clearly good enough to allow BYU to be as good as it chooses to be) or they live with it without complaining all day because it is our conference. A small portion of our fanbase, along with the usual Utes and Aggies posing as BYU fans, feel that tearing down the league of which we should be gracious and grateful members is a good idea.
Positives of the WCC:
Extremely strong academically. We never had that in common with the large and academically light MWC.
Private religious schools with beautiful campuses, just like BYU. Largely classy fans.
Excellent Olympic and small sports. Much stronger than the MWC. Elite league in Womens Soccer and Volleyball.
Great history in men's basketball --much better than the MWC.
We get 2-4 Top 20 ranked opponents nearly every season, and thanks to Gonzaga, 7 games against an opponent ranked between 1-5 since we joined the conference. The MWC hasn't had a team ranked in the Top 15 for years, and they usually have no ranked teams.
Better teams at the top in men's basketball, better tv deal, better NCAA revenue.
Are there things to improve in men's basketball? Clearly. But focusing on those and loudly whining about them does no good, and possibly does harm.
I choose to focus on the positive, of which there is plenty. And, I happen to believe that the middle of the WCC is likely to take a step forward, as USD has started to do.
Many complaining fans like to remember the 2009-2013 MWC. It wasn't that for long, and is nowhere near that today.
