If I were a parent I would be furious if my child decommited
Its like these kids don't get what "committed" means. The way I see it, if I were a parent I would tell my child "wait and see what your offers are on signing day and commit then. BUT if you commit early, you're committed. Period".

What kind of lessons do these teens learn if they can just change their minds whenever they want to? These teens need to be taught that if you commit to someone or something you can't just change your mind whenever it's convenient. If you tell a girl you'll take her to the dance, then another one you like says she wants to go, you don't back out with the first one...

If you have ANY doubt in something, don't commit until the very last second and you have all the information available to you.

If you're good enough to be at another school that you'd rather be at, feel free to transfer. At least then you gave it a try and kept to your commitment.

Guess I'm just not a forgiving person...
